Looking for a birthday to Rondane reindeer

Looking for a birthday to Rondane reindeer

Today is my birthday so it’s me who decides :). What I would like as a gift for my birthday is to see wild reindeer. It therefore starts looking for these animals in the National Park of Rondane. The tourist office told us a hike that will normally allow us to see reindeer but they still warn us that it is not easy and need us a good pair of binoculars to see them, that we do not have. This is not serious on hand anyway for this hike.

At the entrance to the park there are already many Norwegian cars parked and is said that it is a bad sign because with all this world animals prefer to hide. It still borrows the trail and follow the red T. Once arrived at the Lake, there are far too many people on the trail so it was decided to change route and explore the surrounding mountains closer patches of snow, appropriate or can be be laid the reindeer.

We walk many but no animal on the horizon. Under our feet, there are large white mushrooms that are similar to foam and are very soft. It is really great to walk on this floor that bounced under our feet.

Even if we have not seen of wild reindeer, this hike has allowed us to discover the tundra and other animals view the tundra and its all-white birds. We have not seen nor artic fox (Arctic Fox) but only of sheep. Despite the fact that we are in July, and that the snow had partially melted, it is very cold here, so we get to the car quickly.

In the evening, as is my birthday is a small dinner party on a picnic with products area cool and ice. But no birthday cake because it was not found. Pity I don’t soufflerais not my candles this year.
We take the road to find a corner to sleep and that is what I see on the side of the road? A moose (elan)! A moose of anniversary! We are too happy, this makes our day moose.

The Geiranger of happiness but the Dalsnibba in baba

The Geiranger of happiness but the Dalsnibba in baba

It is the last fjord we still visit, classified world heritage of the Unesco. We arrived there a lot of fog so it does not rise to the Dalsnibba (which is a mountain which normally offers a beautiful panorama on the fjord) because we will see nothing and that cost even € 12. It had also established a super hiking program, but as the weather is bad it adapts. We therefore leave for a low altitude ride that runs along the fjord (3km). On the way shots means one wonders therefore if hunting and open here and what the Norwegians may well hunt because we have not seen many animals other than sheep. In fact, it will be understood at the end of the day 3 shots are fired by cruise ships when they arrive or leave the port. The ride ends at the beach of the fjord. There are rocks and algae, which allows us to recognize as the water of the fjord and sea water that mixes with freshwater from rivers.

Rain starts to fall so let’s take refuge in the village shops to play a little to tourists while the weather changes. A big boat cruise of France landed its passengers in the port. Oulalaa too much french coup it is weird. Discussed with them and there is with amusement that the only ones who have left port and stores are french tourists who prefer to leave a little to the discovery walk from Geiranger.

2-

We walk again after eating for a second hike this time a little more height and on the left bank of the fjord. There are 55O m in altitude which is already not bad to enjoy a beautiful view over the fjord. Hiking is done in undergrowth, here the vegetation is dense and it is wet as in Asian countries. We meet on the very muddy way many Americans then believed that we would be the only brave ones on the way. We view the farms which are used for the return of the pastures milking goats = ‘milk the goats. They are all cute with their herbal on the roof. There are also beautiful views of the fjord because the fog had lifted. It is beautiful especially with the waterfalls which flow along the mountains. On the back I fall in the mud and I’m getting to the knees.

Evening arises along a Bank of the fjord, I care while Nicolas hand to fishing to bring back us for the evening meal. Unfortunately there has been less fortunate than our neighbour from the campsite because who has sinned in a quarter of an hour just a huge fish of almost 1 meter! It only comes back not and Nicolas very jealous pechery until the lying and even even the next day morning at 5 h.

The next morning, rise very early not to miss our cruise on the fjord of Geiranger to Hellesylt. We hurried to go to the port and actually it is ahead of time and most importantly we are left alone on the boat. How lucky a nothing private cruise for us.

5

At Hellesylt one wonders what will be do because it’s really not nice. On hand anyway for a 3 km hike that allows us to have views of the lovely cascade of Hellesylt and fjord.

6

7

8

Then the time view so we hurry to resume a ferry to return to Geiranger and make some nice pictures of the fjord from the boat. It has a superb view on the seven sisters waterfall.

9

Back on Earth, we take the road to less dark horizons.

10

* Explanation of the title: very thick fog has not allowed us to mount at the Dalsnibba to admire the view on Geiranger nor take off paragliding from up there over the fjord

Still more Jostedal glacier

Still more Jostedal glacier

Hiking to the foot of Nigardsbreen (3 km). It is a ride on the rocks along a lake and a river that flows from the glacier. What is impressive here is we really arrive at the foot of the Glacier. The ice is really blue and it is tunnels. It is also very clear crevices and meant the water flowing beneath the ice with small cracks. Its been cold in the back and at the same time it is so beautiful that with Nicolas on promises to try mountaineering in Chamonix.

Hiking secret Bergset mountain to see the Steinmannen and Bergsetbreen glacier. It is the office of tourism, which told us that hiking is not in veins hures for tourists that is why it was decided to call it the ‘secret hiking’. Must be mounted between the pet and a small straight towards the Mountain House. This almost vertical hike is very impressive. It quickly took the height and hop it has an amazing view on the Valley and on the glaciers. We are still not gone at the end of the hike because it bed raining ropes and the descent scared us a little with the floor slippery. It was when even swallows 400 m difference in 1 h which is not bad.

9

As it is not yet quite tired is chained with a hike to the foot of the Bergsetbreen (6km). This time we walk in the Valley along the River to arrive at the foot of the glacier. It still rains a lot but it was worth. This glacier is different from others because it is very steep.

Hiking to Myrhonna 430 m in altitude to climb on the mountain of the Manneen. De facto departure at the edge of a Lake after a very steep and full of turns gravel road. This hiking we were told by the Lady of the campsite which promises us a super view on all the glaciers that surround Jostedal. That fall well the rain has subsided and there is no fog. Here not tourist except for a somewhat crazy family makes the same hike we with young children. They climb the rocks and climb in the snow. They slide to find flat-bellied but parents have the air of mock them. Me because I have that sneakers because other shoes are soaked I prefer not climb to the Summit because rain will happen and I don’t want to drag down. The view that we have at this stage of the hiking is just mad. Pictured above all the glaciers and the Nigasbreen in its entirety. It has the shape of a snake of ice that flows between two mountains. We realize also that all the glaciers share the same snow and they are large ice flows. A bit of sunshine to illuminate everything and it’s magical.

The Nærøyfjord seen from above

The Nærøyfjord seen from above

The Nærøyfjord is an arm of the Sognefjord. It is world heritage of Unesco then you couldn’t miss without stopping. The problem is that it’s not nice and so it is not clear the mountains and water of turquoise fjord. Tampis, it’s not the rain that’s gonna stop us then we put our walking shoes and our mini-monsoon and go for hiking Rimstigen. The departure of the hike is a little hard to find because it is not indicated, but as it is clever it locates cars parked along the road and thanks to Google maps it starts to climb following a small path between the tall grass. Thus, there is fast the height on the fjord which is a good way to admire it. Once at the top of the mountain a panel tells us that there is 725 m in altitude. There is a little fog but life is beautiful on this small fjord. As the rain continues one goes quickly because the stones glide more and because it is soaked.

“After the beautiful Sun time (Navy)” or rather after the rain the beautiful time, so it’s an opportunity to make a small flight over fjord since there is a small spot of paragliding not bad after a paraglider of Voss. At Aurland we see gliders who fold their veils, they tell us they will redo a flight and it would be nice to make one with them. We therefore ask the car landing and made the stop. Kurt, a Norwegian takes US in his car. It is really nice. We begin to discuss it in french because he speaks very good french. He explains that he goes fishing to fish trout in the ice. These «small trout» according to him are still 30 cm and it catches a 30 in 2 h which is just crazy for us but normal for him. He also explains his technique of fishing in Nicolas then tells us also have already caught sharks in the fjord (because it is sea water). On the road it stops that we take pictures like other tourists with Nicolas. Here we say that it is a trap and that it will stand with paragliding equipment in his car without us but actually not, he quietly waits for us. It is really incredible. It also tells us that his house is always open and ready us his kayak to go on fjord when one wants. Wow how lucky to have made its acquaintance! Kurt filed us to the parking and then to reach take-off must be installed a little before arriving on a mountain that offers a magnificent view over the fjord. We are with other paragliders. It hurries to equip themselves to take off before the rain. Once in the air a ray of sunlight illuminates the fjord, it is magic.

Navy: “the climb with the bag was a little hard because we had already walked in the morning but I was still happy to take off from so high. The Sun on the fjord was amazing just for our flight. Nicolas walks us above the fjord what frightens me a bit because you’d fly above the sea. Before landing, it was the huge wings and then it lands. Other paragliders look at us and say that it is crazy to do the figures with a bi. »

DCIM102GOPROG0614211.

NICOLAS: “after a climb with backpacks on arrived at the point of take-off under a nice downpour but here it is not a problem as the weather changes in a few minutes. We share the take-off with 5 Australian drivers who have already dégourdit the wings in Iceland before coming to Norway. They thought we were going to fly each solo with our small compact bags. Indeed, I wear bi Golden 3and my headphones in the Kortel Hummingbird bag and Marine two Karver 2 harnesses in the II of Kortel bag. This allows us to really be at the top for the market and flight. Once the last few drops past it spreads out sailing and go to take advantage of the Sun’s rays onto the beautiful fjord. It lets one of the Australian 11 sqm which tells us “I will show you the way” and that after two three turns engaged takes a nice closure. It really is a huge chance to fly over this beautiful Fiord and all the waterfalls that surround it. We enjoy the flight ending in beauty by 4-5 wings engaged history of even the fjord under our head. Asked on the official airstrip next to the fjord. We took the opportunity to exchange with the Australian pilots on the good plans to fly in Australia or other countries where they went. t we get the car met the flight.”

Tandem flight to Voss and tourism in Vík

Tandem flight to Voss and tourism in Vík

Toward the Nærøyfjord it makes a stop in the resort of Voss Ski to a two-seater. For paragliding Voss is well known, this is instead of the air games according to Nicolas. This time there is a decoration and an official atterro. This is madness. We therefore ask the car landing and made the stop. By chance a guy who works on the reassembled mechanical stops. Put large bags in the dumpster of the pick-up and it’s gone. He said that this year has not at all there snow and that the station has had difficulties. We had the chance to ride with him because the road to go until liftoff is cut and access is restricted to the staff of the station. He filed on the parking lot and should continue on foot to reach the take-off. Good as it was a bit lazy one finds a field 200 metres over far to unfold the sail.

Navy: “for take-off should be run a bit in the mud and droppings of sheep and we fly. My taff during this flight: tchecker powerlines or lifts to not to take them. We descend quickly flying over trees and cabins at the roof covered with grass (it is a Norwegian Mountain tradition and this allows to insulate the home and retain heat). It was a beautiful vol.”NICOLAS: ‘first time a flight in Norway is also quiet. Already asked the car landing, which is great and with a handle air then that for previous flights on selected our landing in the air. Take-off is done on a ski slope so there is the place to spread the two-seater sail. A small breeze front allows us take off without problem and takes us above the magnificent ski Voss and its beautiful Lake Resort. We enjoy the landscape and after two three wings were landed. Two people out of a van to ask ourselves if it is Brazilian because they had to do a two-seater with a Brazilian. Two other wings are in the air with a sail of addicted blackout 18 after 1 sat and two three wings arises. We take this opportunity to Exchange on their practice of paragliding and they tell us that here in the spring they have also made very nice flights (about 120 km). They tell us a super spot for paragliding in the Nærøyfjord. »

As it is not good we use it to make a detour before going to the Nærøyfjord and is spent by Vik to visit two “Stavkyrkje” = churches. The first church we visit is called Hopperstad Stavkyrkje. It is a wooden church which dates from 1140. These typical churches of the Middle Ages existed throughout Europe but only Norway has preserved and has more than 28. The contours of the wood and decorations on the interior walls are surprising and very well preserved. When even 900 years that this wood is the and it has not rotted.

The second church we visit is this time in stone. It is called Hove Steinkyrkje and date from 1170. This church is a little less impressive than the first but equally cute.

Walk on the language of the Trolltungua troll

Walk on the language of the Trolltungua troll

Today huge hike: 1000 m of altitude and 22 km went back and all this in maximum 10-12 h. DSC_0612

OK, I can assure you that on paper and see the head people who back this hike does not dream. It’s a bit like going to hell: work or die. So after having nightmares all night, Nicolas pulls me from the bed at 4:30 to be first on the road. After a rude awakening we attack the 1st rise at 5:30. Markets climb in rock. It’s hard because ca climbs for 2 km. It is 400 m difference in 30 minutes. You’re too thoroughly. We double full of people on the way and this hike turns into a real race. But we still take the time to make like mat in fort Boyard, there are each performed km with the fingers.

DSC_0633

DSC_0646

The last two km are the hardest. Nicolas double me and short front to see the language of the troll. Are mounted between the pots (full of small lakes in large pebbles stone) and then after a passage in the snow here we come. There, the view is magical and more was set a small record: it is these 1000 m of difference in altitude and 11km in 2 H 56! Less 3 h are too proud because Norwegians from the previous day told US put 7 h to make the return went.

As we morning, there still not many people on the language of the troll.  We will therefore wander above. It is very impressive! It overlooks the fjord of so high it’s crazy.

20160707_091948

Some photos later we devour our sandwiches because we have a mega hungry then is pressed down. Always in our optics to a record it hurries to double everybody. The one falls on a couple of Americans met the morning and we start chatting in English with them. He is a doctor and she is dance teacher in a school of finance in Texas. They are very interesting, one speaks of everything: health system, port weapon, education system, good plans in Norway,… It is not the downhill pass. You still eventually of depletion and ends alone hiking. The arrival has a program nearby and too cool: small shower small beer and laundry. Finally the supermarket is closed and there is no shower. It fell back on another plan: to find a campsite to make everything. We will therefore in a place a little pome and the surprise there is that Chinese cars coming photographed the waterfall nearby. The washing machine does not function properly and the dryer do not talk. But there are two Swiss in the laundry room and they are super cool. There is also the family of Czech Republic for the 4th time since the Norway its starts to do much. Coincidence? I do not know in any case they are afraid of us because they think that it follows and especially they take Nicolas to a fool because it their application all the time what they have done and what they will do, where they come from… It’s very funny but a little blase especially since they are machines of wars they bonded hiking on hiking.
